Day 10 – Franz Joseph to Queenstown

No sleeping in today! Up before the sun to grab a bite to eat & then get a lift to the bus stop.  The manager of our hotel came through for us & kindly gave us a lift into town so we could catch the 8am bus.

It’s lovely to watch the dawn rise over snow capped mountains. Yesterday I saw a lovely looking longan black rice pudding in the Snake Bite cafe so this morning I took the opportunity to grab it for morning tea on the bus – it tasted as good as it looked YUM!

The frost was so beautiful today, it covered everything until quite late in the day.

Our bus trip back to Queenstown was pretty much just the reverse of our trip to Franz Joseph other than a lovely stop at Ship Creek beach where there was even frost on the boardwalk.

We also had a lovely stop at Lake Hawea

We arrived in Queenstown by 4.30pm to discover that tonight’s motel (Blue Peaks) is at the top of what must be the steepest hill in Queenstown. Booking sites really should give warnings – don’t stay here if you need to drag your suitcase from the bus stop.

Queenstown seems to be full of satanic restaurants. We passed one called Hell & ate at Devils Burger – they make a great fish wrap!

Tomorrow we catch the bus to Milford Sound.
